‘St. Charles Society, Madurai’ is part of the congregation of the sisters of St. Charles Borromeo (SCB). SCB was founded in 1684 by Rev. Fr. Adrian Bresy (Parish Priest of Wez) diocese of Tournai, Belgium, to impart Chistrian education to the poor children of the Parish. St. Charles Borromeo was chosen as patron of the new-born Congregation because of his zeal for the church, great love for the poor, life of austerity and industriousness and his heroic work of reformation achieved through the weapon of education. The year 1684 was the death centenary year of St. Charles Borromeo. The foundation of the congregation in the same year was a happy coincidence which favoured the choice of him as our Patron. Following the foot steps of this holy saint the Sisters were soon came to be known as the Sisters of St. Charles Borromeo. The first missionary sisters from Belgium built their abode at Ranipet in Vellore district in the year 1929. Today we have extended our mission stations to different continents. In India we have about 60 communities spread out from North to South and East to West. We are engaged mostly in educating children.

To form women teachers who realize that teaching is a noble profession. To prepare women teachers who are empowered with knowledge, skills and values of love, compassion, integrity, service etc. to be competent, committed and creative for the development of a more just social order in an atmosphere of intellectual verve and moral integrity. To train and form women teachers so as to enlighten and empower the next generation to bring about the desired social changes. To train the prospective teachers to become relevant educators in an ever changing techno-world of today. To inculcate in student teachers an eco-friendly attitude. To make the College an ideal institution for forming teachers who become relevant to present generation.

ENLIGHTENED to EMPOWER is the special objective of our institution for teacher education. Qualitative educators have become rare in the present context of our country which commercialises everything including education, non-ethically. To fight against this trend, to swim against the current and to hold on to the values of the Gospel of Christ is our Motto.
